Legendary of Santubong and Sejinjang's Mountain.

Although the name 'Santubong' comes from Iban words which Si-antu-ubong means “spirit boat”. Antu is hantu in Malay which means spirit or ghost. Santubong are boat like coffins made from a single hollow log designed to represent the vesell in which a dead person will travel from this world to afterlife.

Following another theory, the name Santubong is derived from "san choo bong" in the Hakka Chinese Dialect, meaning "wild pig king" or "king of wild pig".

This mountain is famous among locals as a mythical story of the legend Santubong and Sejinjang Princes.

Once upon a time, there were two princesses named Puteri Santubong and Puteri Sejinjang. They lived in the heavens and led a life weaving the most beautiful cloths and pounding the most delicious rice. The two princesses were the best of friends, but as fate would have it; their friendship did not stand the test of time.

The arrival of a handsome and dashing prince, Putera Mahkota Serapi gave way to a tragic love triangle. Both princesses fell madly in love with him and competed with each other to win his heart. Putera Mahkota, unable to choose between the two, offered to marry both princesses as a solution the princesses fiercely.

The princeses broke into a vicious and violent fight, using their working tools to hit one another, eventually leading to their deaths. The King of the heavens was so furious with them that he cursed them to become mountains.

Look carefully and you may notice that Mount Santubong slightly resembles a human face. For the local people, they believe it was a Santubong Princes facing up to the sky lying on her back.

It is said that when Puteri Santubong hit Puteri Sejinjang's head, it smashed into pieces. The tiny islands of Pulau Kerak, Pulau Lakir and Pulau Satang-Talang are said to represent the shattered pieces of Puteri Sejinjang's head, whilst Mount Sejinjang is where the rest of her lays.
